Michelle Tanner recognizes that water resources are vital for our survival. She opposes fear based approaches that result in heavy handed government regulations. She believes the best strategy for water conservation is education and a market based approach. Studies indicate that using price mechanisms for higher water use is far more effective at encouraging conservation than heavy handed arbitrary government mandates.

Michelle Tanner recognizes that although conservation is important, we will not be able to conserve our way out of a drought. We will continue to have cycles of heavy rain and drought throughout time. It is vital that we are utilizing innovative ideas for water reuse, potential desalination, primary water resources, increased water storage through reservoirs, and be forward thinkers on securing additional water supply. Michelle Tanner believes we must be responsible and transparent in terms of growth and what our natural resources can adequately supply.
